With investigations into the mysterious disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed from the JNU campus over two months ago, police is now hoping to extract some information on his whereabouts through lie-detector tests on his friends, including his room partner. Search operations at the JNU campus in the last two days have yielded no results.
According to the police, four students suspected of beating up Najeeb before his mysterious disappearance on October 15, and his roommate Mohd Qasim, will be put to lie-detector tests to get leads or clues about his disappearance and whereabouts.
So far, notices have been served to six people, including family members of Najeeb as well as students with whom he was allegedly involved in a brawl at his hostel before disappearance, a Crime Branch official of the Delhi Police said.
“We have served notices to six people and after their consent, we will be carrying out the tests. Qasim gave his consent and he will be put to a lie-detector test on Wednesday,” police, represented by senior standing counsel for Delhi government Rahul Mehra, told Delhi High Court yesterday.
Many of the students have gone to their homes for vacations, which is hindering investigation, he added.
Meanwhile, more than 600 police personnel have been deployed at the JNU to conduct search operations to trace Najeeb. All agencies of Delhi Police including Special Cell, Special Branch and the local police, have scanned the interiors and residential areas in last two days, covering almost 60-70 percent vicinity but couldn’t find any clues.
Najeeb has been missing since October 15 after an alleged scuffle at his hostel with ABVP students on the night of October 14. A reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced by Delhi Police on any information about Najeeb.
