The Election Commission has officially alloted actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan's political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) battery torch as its election symbol. The development was welcomed by Haasan, who said his party will endevour to become a "torch bearer" in politics.
Kamal Haasan took to social media and announced the news through Twitter.
"MNM thanks the Election commision for granting us the "Battery Torch" symbol for the forthcoming elections. So appropriate. @maiamofficial will endeavour to be the “Torch-Bearer” for a new era in TN and Indian politics," he wrote.
Kamal Haasan's party MNM was launched in February 2018 and has announced it will contest all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu on its own.
The Election Commission of India allotted symbols to 39 political parties on Sunday.
