New Delhi: The Women and Child Development Ministry will soon come up with an online facility for children to complain about abuse in school, society or at home, keeping their identities secret. The WCD ministry is working on an e-dropbox that will let children express their problems about abuse, molestation or harassment in everyday situations.

Simple language with pictures and icons will be used for the children so that it can be easy to understand and use.

"This is another step in our fight against abuse and an attempt to increase the Laxman Rekha around children,” said WCD Minister Maneka Gandhi.

The e-dropbox will be hosted on the website of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The commission has taken the initiative to design the icons along with the response system.

The project is inspired by Delhi Police's 'Operation Nirbheek' uder which the police placed complaint boxes in different schools. Girls could use those boxes to anonymously complain about any abuse. Many of the complaints were later converted into FIR.

A study by the government concluded that over 53% of children in India are victim of sexual abuse, but most don't report the assault. A sample size of 12,447 was taken from 13 states across India in a survey, which revealed that Andhra Pradesh, Bihar Assam and Delhi have the highest cases of child abuse incidents with 53.22%. In almost all of the child abuse cases, the abusers were known to the child or were in a position of trust, and most of children did not report to keep it hidden.
