In a heart-warming gesture and an ample example of communal harmony, people in thousands thronged in to give a hero’s sendoff to JCO Ashraf Mir in Kashmir’s Kupwara, who martyred during the gunfight with militants following the terror attack on Sunjuwan Army Camp in Jammu.
People were heard voicing slogans like ‘Meer Ashraf zindabad’ and ‘Pakistan murdabad’ slogans.
According to India TV sources, around 5,000-6,000 locals from the Valley attended the last rites ceremony of martyr JCO Ashraf Mir.
Meanwhile, a similar gathering of thousands was seen during the last rites ceremony of Army jawan Mohammad Iqbal – also martyred during the Sunjuwan attack – in Tral, an area which has become a hub of militant activities of late.
Large crowds gathering to attend the funeral of dead terrorists had been a major concern of police in the state. However, no security forces were seen during the procession carried out for the jawans killed during the attack on Sunjuwan Army Camp.
