Senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother, Gurcharan Kaur, were found dead at their Mohali residence today. Police suspect that the two were murdered.
Police said that senior officials have reached Singh's residence and have launched a probe. KJ Singh was a former news editor of The Indian Express.
"There were injury marks on their necks," Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alam Vijay Singh said. KJ Singh was in his sixties while his mother Gurcharan Kaur was 92 years old.
Meanwhile, on directions from CM Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Police has set up a SIT to probe the case. KJ Singh’s green-coloured Ford Ikon is also missing from his home.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal condemned the murder of Singh and his mother.
Singh is the third journalist to be killed this month. Earlier, Santanu Bhowmick, a journalist from ‘Dinrat’ news channel was kidnapped and killed in West Tripura district. On September 05, journalist-turned-activist Gauri Lankesh was shot dead by unidentified assailants at her Bangalore residence.
