An unidentified man opened fire at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid outside Constitution Club of India in central Delhi on Monday afternoon.

Khalid escaped unhurt in the incident. The attacker fled from the spot.

A man wearing a white shirt pushed Umar Khalid and fired at him when he was standing near a tea-stall in the high security zone. Khalid lost his balance and fell down and the bullet missed him.

The attacker fired in the air and then fled from the spot after the pistol slept off his hands, an eye witness told news agency ANI.

"There is an atmosphere of fear in the country and anybody who speaks against the government is threatened," Khalid said.
