Twitter governance: When Suresh Prabhu accepted Odisha railway proposal within 3 minutes

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu accepted a proposal from Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik for a new railway line within three minutes.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu have taken the use of social media for governance to whole a new level. In a recent examples of fast-tracked Twitter governance, Suresh Prabhu accepted a proposal for a new railway line in Odisha within three minutes. 

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Twitter offered to share half of the project cost of a new railway line in the state, a proposal which was accepted by the Railway Minister immediately. 

Patnaik proposed the 35km railway line between Puri and Konark on the microblogging site at 10.05 PM last night and it was responded positively at 10.08 PM by Prabhu.

"CM@Naveen_Odisha proposes state sharing 50 per cent of project cost for new rail line from Puri to Konark to boost tourism potential in #Odisha," the CMO Odisha said.

“State Government contribution to increase rate of return from 11.7% to 20%, making it an extremely profitable venture for @RailMinIndia,” another tweet said. 

"CM @Naveen_Odisha urged upon Union Min @sureshpprabhu for early sanction of this project & signing an MoU for timely completion," the CM's tweet said.

Prabhu immediately tweeted back saying: "We are ready to sign it any day, we are waiting for it, as it was our initiative to share ownership with states of these JVs." 

Puri and Konark, which will be linked with the new railway line, are two top tourist destinations of Odisha and are visited by thousands of tourists every day. The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 310-crore.
