Patna: Ruby Rai, the Bihar State Examination Board Class XII Arts topper who was accused of cheating last month, while giving a re-test on Saturday, wrote “Tulsidas ji, pranaam”, when she was asked to write an essay on the poet-saint.

She had described political science as prodigal science and had said that the subject pertained to cooking soon after the declaration of the Class XII results.

She was asked to appear for a re-test before a seven-member expert committee. According to a Hindustan Times report, Ruby told the committee of the board that she had forgotten what she had studied for the examination that was held three months back.

“She claimed to have studied for the examination for two years but could not remember anything,” one of the experts of the panel told Hindustan Times.

Ruby Rai was on Saturday taken into custody by Patna Police’s Special Investigation Team after she failed a re-test at following which a non-bailable warrant was issued against her and three other toppers.

“The panel that examined her (Rai) found her unworthy of the marks she had obtained to top the examination. Following the report, we have cancelled her results,” said BSEB chairman Anand Kishor.

Soon after the declaration of Bihar State Board exam results, Ruby Rai during a local TV channel interview had said that “prodigal” science is about cooking.

On the other hand, Saurabh Shreshtha, the Science stream topper, had said that aluminium is the most reactive element in the periodic table.

Following the absurd answers given by the declared ‘toppers’, a total of 14 students were called for a re-test by the state board.

It was surprising to know that Arts topper Ruby Rai had scored 444 out of 500 markes, while Shreshtha had secured 485 out of 500 marks.
