In another success for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, three militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, defence officials said. The encounter broke out at around 8 pm at Wanihama village of Anantnag, following an anti-militancy operation launched by the security forces, said a defence spokesman.
He added that three militants were killed in the ensuing gunbattle.
"Based on specific information that three LeT terrorists would be passing through the Wanihama (Brakpora) area of Anantnag in a car, personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police laid an ambush and engaged them, killing all three," Defence Ministry spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia said here.
Congratulating the security forces, J&K DGP SP Vaid tweeted: "In a chance encounter 3 terrorists killed near Anantnag by a joint team of security forces. Their identities are being ascertained. Well done!"
While authorities have not confirmed the identities of the slain terrorists, sources said one of the them is a foreign unknown militant. Sources said other two militants could be Mudassir Hajam and Showkat Lohar of Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants, the official said.
"Terrorists opened fire on the last vehicle of the army convoy near Bijbehara. We retaliated and a man was injured in the incident," he said.
