Swachh Bharat rankings: Indore tops list, no UP city in top 30

The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) on Thursday announced the Swachh Survekshan-2017 rankings as part of the national sanitation survey, under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) on Thursday announced the Swachh Survekshan-2017 rankings as part of the national sanitation survey, under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

While Indore emerged as the cleanest city in the country, Gonda in Uttar Pradesh has been ranked the worst. 

The sanitation rankings of 434 cities and towns were announced by Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. 

Bhopal – the capital city of Madhya Pradesh stood at the second spot. Vishakhpatnam improved its ranking from fifth to third spot this time. 

Mysuru, which topped the list in 2015-16 rankings, slipped to fifth spot this year. Similarly, Chandigarh, the second cleanest city in the previous ratings, slipped to the 11st spot in the current rankings. 

Surat improved its ranking by two spots and stood at fourth in the current Swachh Bharat rankings. 

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has slipped from fourth to seventh spot. 

No city or town from Uttar Pradesh has managed to enter even the top 30 rankings with Varanasi lying at the 32nd spot. 

Here is the list of top 10 cities and towns in the Swachh Bharat rankings of 434 cities and towns: 

1. Indore (Madhya Pradesh)

2. Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)

3. Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh)

4. Surat (Gujarat)

5. Mysuru (Karnataka)

6. Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu)

7. New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)

8. Navi Mumbai (Mumbai)

9. Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh)

10. Vadodara (Gujarat)

The ten lowest ranking cities in the list are as follows: 

1. Khurja (Uttar Pradesh)

2. Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh)

3. Abohar (Punjab)

4. Muktsar (Punjab)

5. Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh)

6. Katihar (Bihar)

7. Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh)

8. Bagaha (Bihar)

9. Bhusawal (Maharashtra)

10. Gonda (Uttar Pradesh)
