Jammu: In the wake of the violence in the Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Kashmir police today said adequate steps are being taken to ensure the safety of Amarnath pilgrims and strict action would be taken against those indulging in rumour mongering.
"Adequate steps are being taken to ensure safety of the yatris and provide them all facilities," Inspector General of Police (Jammu zone) Danish Rana said during a meeting with the civil society here.
Strict action would be taken against those indulging in rumour mongering, he said, and appealed people not to heed to rumours and sought their cooperation in maintaining communal harmony and peace in the region.
DIG Jammu (Samba Kathua range) Ashkoor Wani assured that police and security forces are monitoring the situation and requisite steps are being taken to check any untoward situation.
Owing to the unrest in the Valley, Amarnath Yatra remained suspended for the second consecutive day today from Jammu, with officials saying it will resume when there is confidence about security of the pilgrims. However, the Yatra from the base camps in Kashmir is on.
