Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, on Wednesday, was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat. The 182 metre statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was unveiled on his 143rd birth anniversary.
At the launch ceremony, the Prime Minister and other dignitaries poured soil and Narmada water into a Kalash to mark the dedication of the “Statue of Unity” to the nation. The Prime Minister pressed a lever to commence a “Virtual Abhishek” of the statue. On the occasion, the Prime Minister also addressed a gathering. PM Modi reached Gujarat on Tuesday night.

He arrived at the Wall of Unity and inaugurated it. At the feet of the Statue of Unity, the Prime Minister performed a special prayer. He also visited the Museum and Exhibition and the Viewers’ Gallery. This gallery, at 153 metres height, can accommodate up to 200 visitors at one time. It offers a spectacular view of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, its reservoir, and the Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges.
The ceremony also witnessed flypast of Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft and performances of cultural troupes.
"Tomorrow is a historical day as the tallest statue in the world,statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who united India,will be dedicated to the nation. It was dream of PM Narendra Modi since the time he was Gujarat CM. His dream is coming true," said Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani on Tuesday.

- It is the world's tallest statue
- Its height is 182 metres (597 ft)
- Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET) was established by the Government of Gujarat for its construction
- Initially the total cost of the project was estimated to be about ₹3,001 crore (US$420 million) by the GoI
- In October 2014, Larsen and Toubro won the contract for its lowest bid of ₹2,989 crore (US$420 million)
- The construction was started on 31 October 2013
