Mathura (Uttar Pradesh): One police officer was killed and five policemen along with Superintendent of Police of Mathura were injured in a violence erupted during an operation to clear hundreds of acres of government land from the activists of a religious group 'Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi'.

Firing took place during police operation to evict 1500-3000 activists who have been occupying Jawahar Bagh for around a year. The deceased officer is SHO of local police station.

Police used teargas to deal with the violent satyagrahis in the Jawahar Bagh area where the clashes continued in this district of Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Daljeet Chaudhary, (ADG, Law&Order) said, “Jawahar Bagh has been evacuated, situation under control now, senior officials at the spot.”

“1 police official dead, some including SP City injured in stone pelting and firing by encroachers,” he added.

“All those found responsible will be dealt with strongly,” he further added.

Over two years back, the activists of splinter group of Baba Jai Gurudeo, claiming themselves to be member of 'Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi', had occupied hundreds of acres of land of Jawahar Bagh on the pretext of 'Dharna' .

Their demands included like cancellation of election of President and Prime Minister of India, replacement of existing currency with 'Azad Hind Fauj' currency, sale of diesel at the rate of 60 litres for one Rupee and petrol at the rate of 40  litres for one Rupee.

The Allahabad High Court, acting on a PIL, had recently ordered the authorities to get the land vacated.
