Soldier martyred in cross-border firing in Jammu’s Poonch sector

Pakistani rangers violated ceasefire along the International Border in the Poonch sector of Jammu region by resorting to small arms fire on Thursday.

Pakistani rangers violated ceasefire along the International Border in the Poonch sector of Jammu region by resorting to small arms fire on Thursday. 

According to reports, an Indian soldier was martyred in the cross-border firing. The jawan has been identified as Sepoy Deepak Jagannath Ghadge.

Army said that Pakistani troops opened fire at Indian post Pakistani troops opened fire at around 1400 hours at Gulpur area which was effectively retaliated. 

The jawan, Army sources said, was injured in the firing from across the border and he was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The jawan identified as sepoy Deepak Jaganath had suffered a bullet injury in the head. The 27-year-old belongs to village Borgaon in Satara district of Maharashtra. He is survived by his wife, his 2-year-old son and 


daughter aged 1 year. 

There have been a number of ceasefire violations along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC) this year. 

In another case, an Army jawan was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Daraba in Poonch sector, official sources said. 

The Srmy has handed over the investigation to the local police as prima facie it appears to be a case of homicide.
