Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee who is also a Congress leader, took to Facebook on Saturday to reveal the identity of a man who has been sending her ‘lewd messages’ on the social networking site.
Sharmistha posted the screenshot of her Facebook profile that shows the vulgar messages sent to her in Bengali language by a man named Partha Mandal.
“This pervert Partha Mandal is sending me dirty sexual messages. My first reaction was to ignore and block him. But then I thought the silence would encourage him to find other victims. Just blocking and reporting is not enough. I strongly feel such people should be publicly exposed and humiliated,” she wrote in her Facebook post.
Upset with the incident, the 50-year-old INC leader tweeted, “Sexual offence not just crime against an indiv, its crime against collective dignity of women. We must break d silence.”
In her Facebook post, she said that she chose to speak up as “the silence wud encourage him to find other victims”.
Joined INC in 2014, Sharmistha contested the Delhi Assembly election in February 2015 from the Greater Kailash constituency, but lost, coming third with 6,102 votes.
