Terror group al-Qaeda’s Kashmir unit chief Zakir Musa has been trapped by security forces in a village in south Kashmir's Pulwama sector. According to news agency ANI, a massive search operation is currently underway in Tral. However, top police officials have denied any knowledge of the matter.
There are reports of clashes between the locals and the security forces as they tried to disrupt the search operation.
The 22-year-old terrorist is a native of Norpora village, which is close to the spot where Hizbul commander Burhani Wani was killed by security forces in an encounter last year.
The development comes days after security forces shot dead three terrorist from the newly announced Jammu and Kashmir wing of al-Qaeda led by Musa.
According to police, the three were killed in a gunfight in Gulab Bagh village in south Kashmir's Pulwama.
The three terrorists who died were identified as Zahid Bhat of Nowdal Tral, Mohammad Ishaq Bhat of Batagund Tral and Mohammad Ashraf Dar of Baghi Trich.
Al-Qaeda had announced Zakir Musa as head of its affiliate group called 'Ansar Ghazwatul Hind' group in Kashmir. Musa was believed to have gone into hiding after the security forces closed in on him.
