Salem: In a terrifying incident of child abuse that came to light on Sunday, a six-year-old girl’s body was found stuffed in an aluminium vessel in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district. She was allegedly raped and murdered by a teenager in Thelunganur village near Mettur.
The girl, who was a student of Class II, was walking on the street when the 17-year-old accused, who is a school dropout, lured her with sweets, police said. He took her to his house and sexually assaulted her, they added.
Fearing that she might tell her parents about it, the boy panicked and allegedly strangled her to death. He later hid the body in a large cooking vessel, covered it with a lid and then placed it in the puja room.
When the girl’s father could not find her, he went to the police on Sunday morning and complained that his neighbours had seen his six-year-old daughter with the teenager.
When the police went to the accuser’s home, he allegedly tried to flee but was held. During questioning, the teenager confessed to having raped and killed the girl, police said.
