In a tragic accident on Tuesday, a bus carrying 37 school children fell into a canal in Muhawa village near Amritsar in Punjab, resulting in death of at least six deaths.
The bus was dropping children home from DAV Public School, Neshta, Attari, Amritsar. The accident took place in Muhawa village at around 1:30 pm when the driver lost control of the bus.
Bus driver Charanjit Singh fled from the spot.
11 children have been critically injured and have been admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar. Another 11 injured have been referred to Arora hospital, Chehratta village, Amritsar, the Hindustan Times reported.
The police have recovered six bodies and carrying out rescue operation, SP Amritsar (Rural) told news agency ANI.
