New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stay the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) ordinance allowing states to conduct separate entrance tests for admissions to MBBS, BDS courses for the academic year 2016-17.

The court, however, expressed deep displeasure with the government over the ordinance said the Centre’s move was “not in good taste.”

“It shouldn't have been done after SC verdict. Why did you (Centre) do this? This isn't proper,” Justice Anil R Dave said during the hearing on plea against NEET ordinance.

"We are not interfering as it will create more chaos,” the court observed while hearing a plea challenging the Centre’s NEET ordinance.

The apex court had ordered the government to conduct the National Eligibility Entrance Test from 2016. The Centre had initially accepted the apex court’s order but partially reversed it later through the ordinance.
