Vabirisetti Mohan Abhyas, son of a samosa-seller, made his parents proud by securing the All India Rank 6 in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2017.

Abhyas also topped Andhra Pradesh EAMCET (Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test) and stood fifth in Telangana EAMCET.

Scoring 345 out of 360 in JEE mains, Abhyas attributed his success to his parents, teachers and hard work. He took coaching from Aakash Institute at Kukatpalli on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Abhyas's parents, V Subba Rao and Suryakala, are both samosa-sellers and Abhyas also makes time from his studies to help his parents in making samosas.

The family hails from to Palakole, West Godavari district but shifted to Hyderabad 13 years ago so that they can give Abhyas a better future.

“I decided to do engineering at IIT when I was in Class 8 and I never lost my way in achieving the goal. I attended all the classes regularly and with determination to make it big in IIT,” Abhyas was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.

“We are from Palakole in West Godavari district and we came to Hyderabad 13 years ago only to ensure a better education for my son. He is the first person in our family who is going to do engineering. We are glad he has made it to the top,” said his father Subba Rao.

Abhyas now wants to join B.E (Engineering Physics) in IIT Chennai.

Kalpit Veerval, hailing from Udaipur in Rajasthan, had become the first candidate to score a perfect 100 percent score in the JEE-Main, results of which were announced on April 27, 2017.
