Sadhvi Pragya Thakur Singh, one of the prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, spent nine long years in jail. She was released on bail by the Bombay High Court in April, 2017.

Hearing her bail petition, the court had observed that the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) which was probing the case before it was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), had no strong evidence against her.

Sharing the experience of her jail stay on India TV’s Aap Ki Adalat show hosted by chairman Rajat Sharma, Sadhvi Pragya revealed the brutality she was subjected to.

Sadhvi Pragya said she was tortured continuously for 24 days in jail. She said that the ATS kept her confined in a small, dark room for 13 days

"I was thrashed continuously for 24 days. I was beaten so badly that my hands, legs used to turn blue, black. I couldn't even hold a glass of water. I wasn't even allowed to sleep which weakened me mentally. When they use to get tired after beating me I was subjected to abuses," she said.

Responding to a question, Sadhvi Pragya said terrorism has no religion but it was important that traitors are dealt with iron hands.

Six persons were killed when an improvised explosive device strapped to a motorcycle went off at Malegaon, a town with sizable Muslim population in north Maharashtras Nashik district, on September 29, 2008, while 101 persons were injured.
