Tension prevailed in Rohit Nagar area of Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday following the recovery of a large number of damaged shiv lingams, allegedly from the debris of temples being demolished for the construction of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor (KVC).

The debris were dumped on a vacant plot just a few kilometres away from the corridor.

Saints were fumed over the entire episode. They alleged that in the name of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor temples are being demolished.

Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati’s disciple Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said, “From past many days, in the name of construction of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, temples are being demolished. Centre and state governments are responsible for it."

Those behind it must be caught and punished, said Avimukteshwaranand.

Meanwhile, cops have seized all the shiv lingams. They have registered an FIR against the unknown persons. The local administration has said that an inquiry into the matter is going on.
