In two separate cases, Maharashtra Police seized Rs 33 lakh cash in Rs 2,000 denomination from Navi Mumbai and Ulhasnagar in Thane Monday evening.
In Navi Mumbai, two persons were held after seizure of the new notes worth Rs 23.70 lakh, while three persons were held in Ulhasnagar after Rs 9.76 lakh in Rs 2,000 denomination was recovered last evening, they said.
In the case of the Navi Mumbai seizure, the Koparkhairane police said those taken into custody have not been able to answer queries regarding possession of the notes.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation today arrested a senior official of the Reserve Bank of India in Bengaluru for allegedly exchanging Rs 1.50 crore of banned currency notes.
