UP Deputy CM Keshav Maurya adds voice to growing chorus for Ram Temple, says impossible to install single stone bearing Babur's name in Ayodhya

"I have clearly said time and again on the issue of construction of a temple in Ayodhya that whenever there is a verdict on Ayodhya, it is the prerogative of the Supreme Court. But a grand temple for Ram Lalla will be built," Maurya told PTI.

With chorus growing for construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya too echoed a similar stance on Monday. He said it was impossible to install even a single stone bearing the name of Babur. The 16th century Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1992 by rightwing Hindus who believe it was built on the birthplace of Lord Ram.

"I have clearly said time and again on the issue of construction of a temple in Ayodhya that whenever there is a verdict on Ayodhya, it is the prerogative of the Supreme Court. But a grand temple for Ram Lalla will be built," Maurya told PTI.

He said neither the petitioner nor the government can do anything in a matter pending before the court, and added that the installation of a grand statue of Lord Ram in Ayodhya should not be linked to construction of  a Ram Temple.

The Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti, an umbrella body of Hindu seers, has "directed" the government to bring in a legislation or an ordinance to build the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Demand over law for construction of Ram Temple grows

The demand for a law for construction of the Ram temple has been growing after the Supreme Court last month said an "appropriate bench" would decide in the first week of January the schedule for hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had on Monday pressed for the construction of the temple, saying it would lead to an atmosphere of "goodwill and harmony" in the country. The Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti (ABSS) also batted for the re-election of the BJP in the general elections next year. Yoga guru Ramdev made a strong pitch for constructing a Ram temple in Ayodhya, saying a legislation should be brought in Parliament if the Supreme Court does not deliver a verdict on the matter soon. Ramdev said there could be sections averse to bringing a legislation for the construction of a temple in Ayodhya but there was no opposition to Ram in India.

Swami Paramhans Das, mahant of Tapaswi Chawni temple in Ayodhya, has threatened self-immolation on December 6, if the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was not officially announced by then. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath must make the announcement by December 5. Paramhans sat on an indefinite fast on October 6, demanding a law be passed by the Modi government for construction of Ram Temple. After a week of the fast, Paramhans was detained by the police and he was made to meet UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, who convinced him to give up the fast, the chief priest claimed.

No power in the world can stop the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya," he said.

Talk of building mosque close to Ram temple can make Hindus intolerant: Uma Bharti

Union minister Uma Bharti said while Hindus were the "most tolerant" people in the world, any talk of constructing a mosque on the periphery of a Ram temple in Ayodhya could make them "intolerant". The minister also invited Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to lay the foundation stone of the temple in Ayodhya with her, saying he would "atone for the sins" of his party by doing so."Hindus are the most tolerant community in the world. I will appeal to all politicians: please don't make Hindus intolerant by talking about building a mosque on the outer periphery of the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya," Bharti said.
