New Delhi: In a one-of-a-kind incident, a Haryana court has passed an order to auction the Jhajjar railway station and other properties linked to it after authorities failed to pay compensation to farmers for land acquired from them.
The court has fixed July 7 as the date for the auction of railway station building, staff quarter and the land between Kosli road and Gwalison road of the city. It has also asked the Tehsildar to submit the papers of the auction process in the court by July 15.
The notification for the same will be issued on May 30 whereas proclamation will be done on June 7.
During the hearing, the counsel of Jhajjar railway station had sought 10-12 more days to deposit the amount but ADJ Rachna Gupta set aside the request and passed the auction order on grounds that the court had already given ample time to the opposite party for the purpose but to no avail.
The case relates to the acquisition of land from Rewari to Rohtak in 2007 by the Haryana government. At that time, it was decided that 50 per cent of the money for acquiring the land from farmers will be given by the state government and the remaining amount will be paid by the Indian Railways.
The concerned authorities had also acquired the land for railway station building, staff quarter including the plot between spread between Kosli road and Gwalison road. The deal was fixed for Rs 12.50 lakh par acre. However, farmers approached the court later alleging that the compensation being offered was very low.
