PM in Rae Bareli LIVE Updates: 'Country will never forgive nor forget previous govt's attitude towards Army'

PM Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of some projects and inaugurated few others worth Rs 1,100 crore during his first visit to Congress stronghold and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency, Rae Bareli.

He also flagged off the 900th coach and Humsafar rake made by the Modern Coach Factory in Rae Bareli

"The Centre is committed to development of Raebareli", PM Modi said in his address.

Earlier governments neglected it," he said in his first public meeting after the BJP's loss in recent Assembly polls.

He, however, did not name any party.

Modi, who inspected the Modern Coach Factory, said its neglect was "an example of injustice to the country's means and resources by previous governments".

The factory was sanctioned in 2007 but failed to take off, he said.

HERE ARE THE TOP HIGHLIGHTS:

4:40 pm: This has been the nature of Congress, where constitutional organisations are forced to stand with clutched hands

4:38 pm: They did so for one reason, because judiciary has been one of those that has fought against this party's corrupt practices.

4:37 pm: This party also tried to weaken our judicial processes

4:35 pm: This party destructed all such organisations that didn't work according to them

4:30 pm: Railways will run many new trains in view of Kumbh this time

4: 28 pm: From connectivity to infrastructure, we have laid emphasis on all of them during Kumbh.

4:25 pm: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates state-of-art command and control centre for 2019 Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj (Allahabad).

12:32 pm: Today there are 2 sides before the country. One side is the govt that is trying to strengthen our forces. The other side that wants to weaken our forces at any cost. Country is witness to the fact that Congress is standing with forces that don't want our forces to strengthen, says PM Modi

12:30 pm: The history of Congress in defence deals has been mirred in corruption. Be it Bofors, Rafale and AugustaWestland, says PM Modi. Chopper scam accused Christian Michel was brought to the country a few days ago. Everyone saw how Congress sent their lawyer to save him, he added.

12:24 pm: Country will neither forget nor forgive previous government’s attitude towards Army. For us, the country comes first and not the party. We are trying our best that those who sacrifice their lives for us shouldn’t face any difficulties.
