Using their social media presence, mostly Twitter, Railways minister Suresh Prabhu and External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj have made politicians approachable and instilled a sense of belief that their issues that were otherwise overlooked due to an inefficient bureaucracy, can now get resolved easily.
Undoubtedly, they have changed the way the common man looks at politicians.
Our Railway minister Suresh Prabhu has been making it to headlines for quite some time now, mostly for his job done on twitter. People have been able to get food, medicines and wheelchairs on trains, thanks to this minister’s proactive use of the social media platform.
This time around though, a user took the minister’s helping hand a little too far.
Prabhakar S Jha, a traveller, received a significant amount of backlash from users when he took to Twitter to request Suresh Prabhu for a diaper for his little daughter.
Prabhakar S Jha tweeted saying that he is travelling with his little girl and needs a diaper.
While the request would ideally not have elicited a response, the Railways ministry followed practice and was quick to reply asking for his PNR number so that they could help him out.
@jhaprabhakar Kindly share your Complete (PNR) Journey details & Contact number So that we can assist you, ministry tweeted back.
However, others did not take too kindly to the traveller’s request, leading to some serious trolling that eventually forced the avid father to delete his tweet. Users said that the man was taking undue advantage of the service and was being sloppy.
This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred. Passengers have asked for a diaper on a train and people have bashed them on social media earlier as well.
Perhaps, asking for a diaper may be alright for the Railways, but not okay with Twitter users.
