Poonch: Three minors killed in Pakistani firing in Jammu and Kashmir; Army responds 'effectively'

The boy, identified as Asrar Ahmad, was killed as the Pakistani troopers began shelling and firing in the Kerni area at 6.30 a.m.

Three minors were killed while eight other civilians seriously injured as Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday. 

Among those killed were a 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. The injured have been admitted a district hospital in the Digwar sector of Poonch.

The boy identified as Asrar Ahmad was killed as the Pakistani troopers began shelling and firing in the Kerni area at 6.30 a.m.

"The injured civilians have been hospitalised," the police said here.

"The Indian military is retaliating strongly and effectively... Shelling and firing exchanges are going on," Defence Ministry sources said.

According to police, Pakistani troops targeted dozens of villages and posts with automatic gunfire and mortar shells in Shahpur, Kirni and Qasba sectors in Poonch, starting early morning. 

Until August 1, the Pakistan army had committed 285 such violations, while there were 228 such violations in the whole of 2016, according to figures by the Indian Army.

In another area of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army on Monday foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
