Patna: In a major breakthrough, Bihar Police today arrested five shooters in connection with Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan's murder case.
The shooters are reportedly associated with Laddan Mian who allegedly worked as a henchman for RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin.
"The police arrested five persons in connection with the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan and recovered a 7.65 bore country-made pistol and three motorcycles," Additional Director General of Police (ADG Headquarters) Sunil Kumar told reporters here.
The arrested were identified as Rohit Kumar, Vijay Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Kumar, Ishu Kumar and Sonu Kumar Gupta, the ADG said.
He said Rohit Kumar has admitted that he fired on the scribe resulting in his death. Search is on for some more persons involved in the crime, he added.
The arrests come after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed top police officers to take prompt action in the case. Condemning the murder of Ranjan, he had said the probe would be expedited and Bihar Police will bring to book those responsible for the killing.
42-year-old Rajdeo Ranjan was killed near a fruit market in Siwan on May 13. Two bullets were fired at the Siwan bureau chief of a Hindi daily that hit on his head and neck.
Two bikes and weapon used in killing of Rajdeo Ranjan have also been recovered. Rohit, a notorious supari killer is also being interrogated by SIT and police in connection with the case.
Earlier, acting on a security audit report of Siwan central jail, the Bihar government shifted Shahabuddin, whose associates are under the police scanner in the case on May 13 to Bhagalpur jail.
