Jammu: A paralytic patient was allegedly bitten by rats at the government district hospital in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The hospital administration has, however, said that the incident was old and the curative measures have already been taken.
Wali Mohammad, suffering from full-body paralysis, was lying on the hospital bed two days ago when rats nibbled at his body giving him serious injuries, one of his relatives told PTI.
"Due to paralysis the patient could not feel the pain. We noticed blood oozing from his body and found rats nibbled several parts of his body," Farzana, a relative of Mohammed, said.
However, the hospital administration claimed the incident was old and steps have already been taken to check pest menace.
"This incident happened several days ago. I was informed that the patient was injured by the rats. We conducted an inquiry and have taken precautionary measures to control the menace of pests in the hospital," medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr Anees A Nabi said.
Nabi said, "The news should not be highlighted" as the hospital was doing a "great service" to the people of the district.
Rajouri deputy commissioner Shabir Ahmad Bhat said he will seek a report from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district and take action accordingly.
"I am not aware of the incident, but I will seek report from the CMO of the district and the MS of the hospital and only after that I can comment on the issue," Bhat told PTI.
When contacted, CMO Dr Chaman Basin said he had no knowledge of the incident.
