New Delhi: Pampore attack, which claimed lives of eight CRPF personnel, is suspected to have been planned by Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed's son-in-law Khalid Waleed with two of his deputies handling the two terrorists.
Waleed’s deputies Hanzla Adnan and Sajid Jat were handlers to the two terrorists who carried out the attack and LeT commander for south Kashmir Abu Dujana arranged the local logistics, a report by Times of India said citing intelligence sources.
Intelligence agencies and Jammu & Kashmir police have found credible evidence to prove Pakistan’s direct involvement in June 25 attack on a CRPF convoy.
"We believe Waleed, who has been associated with Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) for a long time and now handling LeT operations, gave instructions for this operation," said an officer.
According to reports, Khalid Waleed is being groomed by Hafiz Saeed to oversee anti-India operations of LeT.
Pakistan’s involvement was established after several articles recovered from the two slain terrorists carried Pakistan’s markings. Logistics recovered from fidayeens included Seven grenades with 'Pakistan Ordnance Factory" markings, medicines, track suits and shoes made in Pakistan and 11 magazines of AK-47 rifles and used/live rounds procured in Pakistan.
Eight CRPF personnel were killed and 24 others critically wounded when terrorists rained bullets on a bus carrying them in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday.
Terrorists sprayed a bus carrying the personnel of 161 battalion of CRPF with bullets at Frestbal, 14 KMs from here, officials said. The CRPF's Road Opening Party (ROP) engaged the terrorists and killed two of them.
Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has claimed the responsibility of attack. Spokesperson Abdullah Ghaznavi said that two LeT militants belonging to a Fidayeen squad attacked the CRPF bus on highway.
“It was a successful attack that such type of attacks will continue in future as well,” he said.
