Padma Shri award winner jumps from 13,000 feet to wish PM Modi on his birthday

Mahajan, a Padma Shri award winner, said she was trying to meet Modi for the last four years, but in vain.

After the successful jump, Mahajan (35) uploaded a video of her unique birthday greeting on social networking site Facebook.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who turned 68 on Monday, received wishes from far and wide but hardly any wish could be as impressive as the one given to him by Indian parajumper Sheetal Mahajan, who jumped off a plane from a height of 13,000 feet holding a birthday message for the prime minister in Chicago, USA.

After the successful jump, Mahajan (35) uploaded a video of her unique birthday greeting on social networking site Facebook.

Mahajan, a Padma Shri award winner, said she was trying to meet Modi for the last four years, but in vain.

"I have been trying to meet the prime minister for the last four years but received no response from his office. I am hopeful of getting some response after this jump," Mahajan said in a message on the internet. 

PM Modi's birthday also kept social media busy as hoards of people rushed to extend best wishes on the occassion, and in rare gesture, the prime minister's official handle responded to almost all the wishes extended on social media with personalised messages.

Khadi India also marked PM Modi's birthday 'with fervour and gaiety'. The government-backed store of Indian wear launched an exclusive designer range of 'Modi Jackets' and 'Modi Kurtas' at its flagship store at Connaught Place in New Delhi mark the day. 

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said that the workers celebrated with fervour and gaiety, the 68th birthday of Modi who himself has become the biggest brand Ambassador of the Khadi.

Saxena said it was the inspiration and vision of the prime minister that Khadi had achieved several milestones in the last four years. 

"For Khadi, Prime Minister himself has become the biggest brand Ambassador. It was his call of 'Khadi for Fashion' that millions of youths adopted Khadi. The launch of these designer jackets and kurtas is the expression of love and gratitude from our artisans for whom the Prime Minister has always shown his concern," Saxena said.

He said the new collection, stitched by expert tailors, was available in affordable range of Rs 999 to Rs 3,500.

Meanwhile, PM Modi celebrated his own birthday by offering prayers at Kashi Vishwanath temple in his constituency Varanasi. The PM on Monday offered lotus flowers and 11 litres of milk at the famous temple.

The prime minister also made a surprise visit to the Manduadih Railway Station and spent a few minutes at platform number 1. He then went to the Diesel Locomotive Works guesthouse, where he spent the night.

Modi, who was on a day-long visit to his parliamentary constituency, reached the temple to worship Lord Shiva after interacting with the students of Kashi Vidyapith and Banaras Hindu University who teach poor children at the DLW.

Modi also interacted with children at a primary school in Narur village, where he received a greeting card from them.

The prime minister gifted a bag containing study material to the children.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP state president Mahendra Nath Pandey accompanied the prime minister and offered prayers at the temple.
