Security was tightened outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar in the wake of Operation Blue Star anniversary on Wednesday.
Several companies of paramilitary forces and Punjab police were deployed across the city to maintain law and order.
Operation Blue Star, an Indian military operation carried out between 1 June and 8 June in 1984. It was ordered by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The decision was taken by the PM in order to establish control over the Harmandir Sahib Complex in Amritsar in the state of Punjab and remove militant religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
Bhindranwale and his militant armed followers were inside the complex buildings.
On 31 October 1984, just four months after the operation, Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her trusted bodyguards-Satwant Singh and Beant Singh.
