Open manholes aren't new to Mumbaikars. Citizens in the "city that never sleeps" anyway have to be super alert even in daytime to avoid literally going down the drain.

Fund manager Samir Arora experienced this first hand. He fell into an open manhole in the upmarket area of Phoenix Mills.

Fortunately, Arora was rescued and told his tale on Twitter.

"...It was scary as hell (and smelly). Was within micro seconds of disappearing. Quick reflexes and shape of manhole gave me second life. Guys and gals- be careful in life and remain safe. Yeh hai Mumbai meri jaan and was close to taking my jaan" read his tweet.

It's great to see the man upbeat after an ordeal which may have led to an injury.

But still, the fall came at a price. Arora lost his Samsung phone which may now be in the Arabian Sea or even in a clogged pipeline of Mumbai's century-old drainage system which is in dire need of an overhaul.
