NIA uncovers suspected ISIS module in Hyderabad, several detained

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday uncovered a suspected ISIS terror cell in Hyderabad. A total of 11 people have been detained for questioning by the NIA in this connection, reports said.

Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday uncovered a suspected ISIS terror cell in Hyderabad. A total of 13 people have been detained for questioning by the NIA in this connection, reports said.

The NIA today carried out raids in different localities of the old city and recovered arms and explosives and currency worth Rs 15 lakh.

"Raids are going on at three to four places in the old city are. NIA is doing it. The local police is assisting them. Searches are being conducted over some suspected terror activities that were planned to be carried out in the city," a senior intelligence officer said.

The suspected Islamic State module was busted in a joint operation of the NIA and the Hyderabad Police. 

NIA officials said that the detained men were in touch with their handlers in Syria and were plotting attacks in India. 

After getting tip from intelligence agencies, the NIA officialsi along with Hyderabad police, carried out extensive search operations in areas like Mogulpuram Bhavani nagar and Barkas in the Old City of Hyderabad on Wednesday morning. 

Earlier, in January 2014, 14 suspected ISIS sympathisers were detained from different parts of the country in an anti-terror operation by the NIA.
