Lucknow: Two persons have been detained in connection with the murder of National Investigation Agency officer Mohammad Tanzil Ahmed last week in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor.

According to reports, the bike used in the murder has also been recovered.UP Police also suspect a 'land matter' could be the possible motif behind the matter.

One of the suspect who has been detained by police is a relative of the deceased. According to Police, he was riding the bike.

Reports also suggest Ahmed's murder conspiracy was hatched in his village Sahaspur.

In a "planned attack", the killers pumped 24 bullets at 45-year-old Mohd Tanzil Ahmad and four at his wife Farzana, as their daughter, 14, and son, 12, watched the gruesome incident from the back seat of the Wagon-R car they were travelling in, police said, adding the children were not injured.

Ahmad was returning home in Sahaspur village of Bijnor district with his family after attending his niece's wedding in another nearby village in the same district, which is about 150 km from Delhi.

The officer's children, aged 14 and 11, had told the police that as the first shots were fired, their father asked them to duck.

Investigators said the assassins appear to have mapped Mr Ahmed's movements to the last detail. They are investigating whether the popular and respected officer was killed as result of personal enmity or because of his work on terror cases.

Some "personal matter" may have been the reason behind the killing of National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed, according to Uttar Pradesh police which on Wednesday claimed to have zeroed in on certain links and hoped to crack the case at the earliest. "Data of his mobile phone, which was damaged in firing, has been recovered," IG (Economic Offence Wing) Deepak Ratan told reporters here.
