New Delhi: A man on the way back from his honeymoon with his newly-wed wife was left stunned when he learnt that his wife went missing from a washroom at Terminal 1C at New Delhi’s IGI airport.

The newly wedded couple landed here on a SpiceJet flight from Bagdogra on Monday evening. As the two were preparing to board a connecting flight for their hometown Lucknow, the woman handed her purse and mobile to her husband to visit the ladies’ room. Little did the unassuming husband know that it was the last he would see of her.

When the woman did not turn up, the man decided to check inside the washroom after waiting for a while. He handed over a picture of his wife to a woman and asked her to check. After a few minutes, the woman came back saying that no one matching the photo was inside the washroom.

He then approached the CISF officials. They were too unable to trace her.

It was upon checking the CCTV footage of the area that the entire story unfolded. Security officials found that the lady, wearing a blue saree, entered the washroom at 6.14pm and exactly 3 minutes later, a burqa-clad woman came out, exit the terminal and walked up to the VIP parking. Here, she met an unknown person and both of them proceeded towards Jhal Road.

When the husband was shown the footage, he told the security personnel that the burqa-clad woman's body structure and gait resembled that of his wife.

The IGI police said that the man did not lodge an official complaint at the police station.

Later, it was revealed that the woman is safe at her residence in Faizabad and she has spoken to her husband, who is a businessman in Kanpur.
