Dreadful messages purportedly praising global terror outfit Islamic State in Navi Mumbai sent security officials into a tizzy on Tuesday. The messages were found scrawled on a pillar of the Khopte Bridge in Uran area.
The messages, scribbled on the bridge pillar, mentioned the names of cricketer MS Dhoni and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
"Dhoni Jannat me out" read one of the messages. Others had unclear references to Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur city, the Mumbai suburb of Kurla, trains, small boats, heaven and hell, while an image of a rocket was spotted with it. IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi also found a mention as the "khoonkar" (most dreaded) terrorist of the "two worlds'. The message called "IS warriors" the best fighters.
In context to Dhoni's mention on the IS message, it is pertinent to mention that India will be playing South Africa in their opening World Cup match at The Rose Bowl, Southampton on Wednesday.
Navi Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe said their teams were investigating the matter from all angles with all the agencies concerned.
A Navi Mumbai police official said the messages cannot be ignored as there were vital installations nearby the bridge, including ONGC, an armoury station, power station and JNPT.
Both central and state investigating agencies have rushed to probe the messages, though it is not immediately clear who may have scrawled them, and when and why.
The area has been cordoned off and police brass are keeping mum on the potentially sensitive issue, coming on the eve of Eid on Wednesday. Security has also been tightened in Raigad, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.
On Tuesday afternoon, Navi Mumbai police carried out a detailed inspection of the site where inscriptions were found.
Earlier in May, there were intelligence reports that boats allegedly carrying 15 Islamic State terrorists had set off from Sri Lanka to the Lakshadweep islands. Following the alert, all the coastal police stations and district police chiefs were alerted.
