In an initiative taken by Nashik police to inculcate the importance of wearing helmet among people while driving, the violators were asked to write an easy about 'Benefits of wearing helmet'.
Under the traffic police's recent drive carried out in city's Mumbai Naka area, nearly 1,100 people were caught for not wearing helmet and they did not pay the fine, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jayant Bajbale said.
Of the 1,100 people caught, 12 decided to pay the fine and 194 others purchased helmets whereas the rest were made to write the essay, according to the official.
These included doctors, advocates, students and engineers who were appreciated by the police for their effort.
