I don't know why I am being labelled as gaddar (traitor), Naseeruddin Shah said.

Veteran Bollywood actor Naseerudin Shah on Friday sought to justify his controversial remark that death of a cow is being given more importance than killing of a policeman, saying he said whatever he felt.

"I love my country...whatever I said was because I am worried about the prevailing situation. I don't know why I am being labelled as gaddar (traitor)...I am ready to face criticism," Naseeruddin Shah told reporters.

"I am expressing concerns about the country I love, the country that is my home. How is that a crime?" he added.

In an apparent reference to the recent mob violence in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, Naseeruddin Shah had on Thursday said that death of a cow is being given more importance than killing of a policeman. The actor had to face the wrath on social media for his remark.

"It will be very difficult to capture this djinn back into the bottle again. There is complete impunity for those who take law into their own hands. In many areas we are witnessing that the death of a cow is more significance than that of a police officer," he had said.
