The Pranab Mukherjee-RSS saga is not over yet. Hours after senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut touted Former President Pranab Mukherjee as RSS's pitch for prime ministerial candidate, his daughter, and Congress leader Sharmishta Mukherjee dismissed the claims.
Speaking to news agency ANI on Sunday, Raut said that Shiv Sena feels that RSS is preparing for a situation where it might put forth Pranab Mukherjee as a PM candidate if BJP fails to get required numbers. "In any case, BJP will lose a minimum of 110 seats this time", he added.
Reacting to Raut comments, Sharmishta Mukherjee tweeted: " Mr. Raut, after retiring as President of India, my father is NOT going to enter into active politics again".
Earlier on Saturday, Shiv Sena in its editorial of the parties mouthpiece 'Saamna' said that Pranab Mukherjee could be the consensus candidate for the prime minister's post if BJP fails to garner majority in the 2019 general elections."The political corridor in Delhi is abuzz with the possibility of Mukherjee being a consensus candidate for the PM’s post after elections. If BJP failed to garner majority in the Lok Sabha, Mukherjee could be a consensus candidate,” it said.
The RSS invite to Mukherjee as the chief guest at its 'Tritiya Varsh Varg' sparked off a major controversy as the Congress leaders expressed unhappiness over his acceptance, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Sangh saw nothing wrong in it.
Sharmistha Mukherjee had vehemently opposed her father going to the RSS event saying that the speech will be forgotten but the pictures will be misinterpreted. She even felt vindicated when a photoshopped image of Pranab Mukherjee doing the RSS salute went viral on social media.
