New Delhi: In a major sigh of relief for the drought-hit Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that in next three to five days, the affected regions of these states will witness an increase in rainfall.
According to BP Yadav, IMD director, western disturbances will cause an evident increase in the rain activities in south India later this week.
"The western disturbances have led to the formation of moist air in Arabian Sea, which has collided with the moist air from Bay of Bengal. Because of this, there is a continuous supply of moisture in the air around Delhi-NCR region. That is why the usual summer thunder-showers that lasts for an hour or so have turned into uninterrupted drizzle for a few days," Yadav told ANI.
Also, the national agro-met advisory in its latest service bulletin predicted that monsoon will most likely hit South India in between June 3 to June 9.
A wet spell is expected over extreme parts of South India and North-East India during May 27 to June 2, as per the bulletin.
Then, gradually, the rainfall belt will be extended northward, driving rains towards the remaining parts South India from June 3 to June 9.
The IMD has already made a forecast that monsoon will be "above normal" this year.
