India will not invite Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi, said reports. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday.

Pakistan PM recently telephoned his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to congratulate him on his victory in the parliamentary elections. Thanking Khan for the congratulatory message, Modi referred to his earlier message to Pakistan to fight poverty jointly, an External Affairs Ministry statement said.

Modi stressed that creating trust and an environment free of violence and terrorism were essential to foster cooperation for peace, progress and prosperity in the region.

Meanwhile, India has invited leaders of Bimstec member states for the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi.

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, current Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the Prime Minister of Mauritius -- the Chief Guest at this year's Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, had also been invited, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said here on Monday.

The members of Bimstec (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan, which are among the countries dependent on the Bay of Bengal.
