Trinamool Congress lawmaker Mimi Chakraborty has given a pertinent reason to why she and fellow politico Nushrat Jahan had to go through an uncalled-for scrutiny at the hands of netizens when they posed in front of the parliament complex, holding up their respective identity cards.
Chakraborty and Jahan were, a few days back, trolled on social media for coming to Parliament dressed in "western clothes". Conversely, cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir did not have to face any such scrutiny when he got clicked in casual attire -- a t-shirt and pair of jeans.
But why?
Mimi says 'that's because we are women'.
Mimi made the observation after journalist Swati Chaturvedi raised the issue on Twitter. She asked, "Has the fashion police attacked Gambhir yet? Or only for the women? I think @GautamGambhir is looking great."
In the photograph tweeted by Gautam Gambhir, he posed in a t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
Mimi tweeted in response to Swati Chaturvedi: "No they didn't ma'am its only bcoz we r women probably but @GautamGambhir looks great."
Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan, popular Bengali actresses, were elected to the Lok Sabha from Kolkata's Jadavpur and Basirhat constituencies respectively.
Mimi, when she visited Parliament for the first time, got clicked and tweeted: "And it's us again. First day at Parliament (with) Nusrat Jahan."
Gautam Gambhir was elected to the Lok Sabha from East Delhi in the recently concluded election.
