Ludhiana: Putting an end to the ‘rumours’ that media entry is banned inside the Golden Temple on the occasion of the 32nd Operation Bluestar Anniversary on Monday, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Avtar Singh Makkar today announced that press is allowed to do its job inside the gurudwara.

“The day is of crucial significance and I urge all to maintain peace. And as far as notice against the entry of the press is concerned, we have not issued any such notice and we will take action against those who have done this. I just request the press not to create any sort of unrest, rest the media is allowed to do their work,” said Avtar Singh Makkar.

Earlier, it was reported that the SGPC has banned media coverage at the premises of Golden Temple, ground zero of Operation Bluestar, on June 6.

In June, 1984, more than 1,000 people were killed in Operation Bluestar, the raid on Sikh's holiest shrine Golden Temple to flush out extremists led by Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale. Bhindrawale and his associates were killed in the operation.

Meanwhile, Amrik Singh, who was 'appointed' Keshgarh Sahib Jathedar by a Sikh conclave last year, urged Sikhs to reach Amritsar on June 6 to participate in 'ardass' (prayer meeting) organised by various Sikh organisations to pay homage to those killed in Operation Bluestar.
