Naik Subedar Paramjit Singh of 22 Sikh Regiment, who attained martyrdom after Pakistani troopers opened an unprovoked firing along LoC yesterday, was today cremated at his native place in Tarn Taran in Punjab with full honours.

A sea of humanity thronged to his residence here to pay their respect to the jawan.

The slain soldier’s mortal remains reached here early this morning. When the mutilated body of the jawan reached here, family members refused to cremate him and sought his full body or any proof to confirm that he was Paramjeet Singh.

Singh, who belonged to 22 Sikh infantry, was among the two soldiers who were beheaded by Pakistani troops yesterday, a charge denied by Islamabad.

Singh's father, wife and daughter said that Army was also not allowing them to see Singh’s body.

Singh’s friends, who were at his residence here, said that they will not allow the Army to cremate the body without seeing his full body.

“They (Army) are not showing us the body of Paramjeet Singh. We want proof that he is our 6.5 inch tall Paramjeet Singh. We will not allow them to cremate him,” one of his friend said.

Another of Singh’s friends urged both the Centre and the state governments to stop playing politics over jawans and take the matter seriously by punishing Pakistani troopers in the same capacity.

“Whose body is this? It is all behind this box. We are not allowed to see him. Why?” one of Singh’s relatives said. They eventually agreed to conduct his last rites.

Naik Subedar Paramjit Singh of 22 Sikh Regiment and Head Constable Prem Sagar of BSF's 200 Battalion were brutally killed by the Border Action Team of Pakistani Army in an unprovoked firing as they were patrolling the LoC. The Pakistan Army men then crossed over 250 meters into Indian territory and mutilated their bodies.
