The Maratha reservation agitation continues to rage on even as the Devendra Fadnavis government is making attempts to address the issue. A man committed suicide in Aurangabad while angry protesters clashed with police in Solapur on Monday.
The police had to resort to lathicharge after protesters started stone pelting in Solapur. Over 70 people were taken into custody for participating in violence. In Nandurbar, protesters, who tried to block roads by burning tyres, clashed with police.

11:30 am: Man commits suicide in Aurangabad
In Aurangabad, a man identified as Pramod Patil committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in support of the ongoing Maratha reservation agitation.
"A Maratha is going today but at least do something for reservation," Patil wrote in Marathi on his Facebook page before committing suicide. The protests have witnessed suicides by at least four people so far. A protester, who was injured in violence during the Maratha reservation stir last Wednesday in Navi Mumbai's Kopar Khairane, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Rohan Todkar (25), who sustained multiple injuries to his head, hands and legs, died after being shifted to the state-run hospital at Byculla.
11:00 am: Shiv Sena calls meeting
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is meeting party MLAs and leaders to discuss the reservation issue. The meeting is taking place at Matoshree, Thackeray's house in Mumbai.
Sena MLA Harshvardhan Jadhav, who had resigned in solidarity with the protesters, slammed the Fadnavis government and said that the it was not serious about granting reservation to Marathas. "The government must come out with an ordinance over the matter. Our protest will continue till the time the issue is addressed," Jadhav, said.
Marathas, a politically dominant community that constitutes around 30 per cent of the state's population, have been demanding a 16-per cent reservation. The community members had earlier taken out silent marches across the state to highlight their demands.
