West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday performed Kali Puja and prepared 'bhog' at her residence at the Kalighat area in the southern part of the city.
The Trinamool Congress supremo, clad in her trademark cotton saree and rubber slippers, played host to scores of guests, which included VVIPs, cabinet colleagues, politicians and commoners. The doors of Banerjee's spartan home at Harish Chatterjee Street were thrown open to the public.
Keeping in view the large number of visitors thronging Banerjee's residence, the police had strengthened security arrangements in and around the area.
Earlier in the day, the Bengal chief minister had even greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Kali Puja and Diwali. "Heartiest greetings to all on the occasion of Kali Pujo and Deepavali," Banerjee posted on her official Twitter handle.
