Newly recruited police constables in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar were humiliated as their caste was stamped on their chests during a medical test. The candidates from reserved category were labelled SC, ST respectively when they were taken to a district hospital in Dhar for a measurement of their physical parameters.
When apprised about the incident, Superintendent of Police Birendra Singh said that an investigation has been ordered. He rejected that labelling was done intentionally. "It is a serious matter and we have ordered and investigation. As the number of candidates was high...it must have been done to avoid any confusion," Singh said.
Reacting to the report, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said he will write to Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan to urge him to take immediate action against those responsible for 'insulting' people from SC/ST category.
"Such an incident is an insult to SC/ ST. I'll write to MP CM over the incident. Appropriate action should be taken against officials responsible for it," Athawale said.
