After more than   12 hours of intermittent firing and the use of tear gas and smoke bombs, the Lucknow encounter finally came to an end in the wee hours of Wednesday.

One terror suspect linked to Bhopal-Ujjain train blast was killed in this encounter. The slain terrorist Saifulla, according to police, was a member of the ISIS Khorasan module.

Seven weapons including a country made pistol, a 9mm pistol, 1.5 kg gun power, sharpnels, ball bearings have been recovered from the slain terrorist.

AN ISIS flag has also been recovered from the spot.

The Police has refuted earlier reports that suggested the presence of at least two terror suspects in in a house in the outskirts of Lucknow.

"After opening the doors of the house (where the terrorist was holed up), the force went inside and found the suspect dead along with weapons," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary said.

"At one point of time it appeared that more than one person was holed up inside the house," he added.

Chaudhary said that the operation "stands closed now. Rest of the legal formalities will subsequently take place."

The slain terrorist Saifullah was linked to the Bhopal-Ujjain train in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday morning. At least 10 passangers were injured in this train blast that took place at Jabri railway station.

Aseem Arun, IG ATS, said that efforts were made to catch Saifullah alive but unfortunately it could not materialise.

“After that, the ATS commandos stormed inside the house after issuing a warning to the terrorist. The suspected terrorist then fired at the ATS commandos, which was then appropriately retaliated by the ATS commandos. After this, two rooms were thoroughly searched and checked, and the person identified as Saifullah was found dead,” he said.
